Hundreds of FNers Attending Jakarta Gathering & Workshop


Last Friday and Saturday, August 28 and 29, Jakarta FNers gathered together in a gathering and workshop organized by Canon & Fotografer.net. About 200 members were in Galeri Café in Taman Ismail Marzuki –Central Jakarta– attending the gathering, while 105 participants joined the workshop held at Datascrip building in Niaga Kemayoran. Both programs were guided by our fellow FN member, Wiwin Yulius, who is popularly called as "MC kondang" in the FN community.

The sixth Canon & Fotografer.net Gathering Series began at 5.45 pm (Western Indonesia Time Zone). After breaking fast (since now is the fasting month for Moslems), Itta Wijono, an Indonesian senior photographer, shared her knowledge on fashion photography, while Ferry Latif brought about human interest and journalistic photos. Our fellow FNer from Batam who also joined the gathering, Agus Waluyo, shared his success in running the business in Bursa Fotografer.net.

Organized by Palty O. Silalahi as the local arranger, this event went well, friendly and joyously. Two senior photographers, Arbain Rambey and Ray Bachtiar, were seen to join the event.

On the next day, at around 3 pm, Canon & Fotografer.net Workshop Series II began. Harlim and Kristupa W. Saragih spoke consecutively in front of the workshop participants on the theme of "Maximize Your Camera." After breaking fast at 6 to 7 pm, all participants joined a shooting session. Canon Selphy ES40: Speaking Photo Printer


Meet the Canon Selphy ES40, an easy-to-use, high quality and creative photo printer that talks to you through the printing process. It is the first compact photo printer with voice guidance and offering an option of seven different languages. Alternatively ES40 can be equipped with an optional Bluetooth adaptor, allowing users to wirelessly print images from a mobile phone. Super-zoom Digital Compact Cameras


Canon presented their latest super-zoom digital compact cameras, the PowerShot SX20 IS and the PowerShot SX120 IS. The PowerShot SX20 IS has a 20x wide-angle (28mm) optical zoom which zooms from 28mm to 560mm giving excellent flexibility with composition. The lens features both an Ultrasonic Motor (USM) and a Voice Coil Motor (VCM) for fast, silent focus and zooming. Combined with a wide-angle view the camera is ideal for shooting wildlife photography or sports events. It features a 12.1MP sensor and offers 720p HD video recording.

The PowerShot SX120 IS is a digital compact camera with a flexible 10x optical zoom lens which includes a 10 Megapixel sensor. The PowerShot SX120 IS comes with the latest DIGIC 4 Face Detection Technology which recognises up to 35 faces in a scene and automatically adjusts key focus and exposure settings to ensure everyone looks their best. The camera can also shoot VGA movies with sound, so users can film action as well as shooting beautiful stills.

To make the PowerShot SX20 IS and SX120 as easy-to-use as possible, both feature an enhanced version of Canon’s Smart Auto Mode with Scene Detection Technology. Shots are enhanced by optical Image Stabiliser (IS) technology, which helps reduce camera shake and image blur. Sentra Photo Event August edition


Sentra Photo Event (SPOT) August edition was held on August 16 and attended by more than 50 participants. It took place at Pakuwon City Office, Surabaya. The event was divided into two sessions. The first one was model photo session. Participants were very excited in photographing model around Pakuwon City area. Enjoying the Wonders of the World in One Album

Rainforest Alliance Photo Contest Sponsored by Fujifilm


Fujifilm has announced its support for, and sponsoring of, the Rainforest Alliance's second "Picture Sustainability" photo contest. [FE]MALE: The Life of Transvestites in a Photo Exhibition

"If men are from Mars, women are from Venus, then where are 'they' from?" This is what the curatorial team wrote as their prologue in a catalogue of a photo exhibition entitled [FE]MALE, which is now establishing in Coral Gallery, Jl. Gejayan (Affandi) Yogyakarta, from August 29 to September 4.

Organized by the Photography Unit (UFO) Generation XVI of Gadjah Mada University, this exhibition brings up the phenomenon of transvestite's (called "waria" in Indonesian) life which always becomes a pro and con in social, psychological, cultural, or religious life. Yefta Gilbert Aprideta, chairman of the organizing committee of the exhibition, said, "From time to time, many people think of them negatively. They live in the middle of our society, but often, the society mocks and alienates them." On the other side, according to the curators, they have their own personal conflict attacking, because of their changing sexual behavior and appearance.

Through this exhibition, these students are trying to unfold every of waria’s life scene; how they experience their daily life (especially in Yogyakarta), including when they run their social life in the neighborhood, working environment, nightlife and street life, also their religious activities. The curators of the 35 presented photos are Brama Danuwinata (the chief of UFO), Didi Mugitriman and Wicak Baskoro.

On the fourth day, September 1, Ferganata Indra (a photographer of KOMPAS daily) performed a "Photographer's Approaching Subject in Human Interest Photography" talk-show, from 4 to 6 pm (Western Indonesia Time Zone). While, you can visit the exhibition from 9 am to 9 pm everyday.

TPAS IX at Phuket

The Photographers Adventure Series (TPAS) has held their adventure for the ninth times. TPAS IX were held at Phuket, Thailand, on August 15-19. It was attended by more than twenty participants. The world renowned Phi Phi island was one of their destinations. At this place, participants were capturing the beautiful scenery combined with beautiful model. Sony Unveiled A850, A550 & A500


Sony unveiled its second full-frame digital SLR in the shape of DSLR-A850. It offers almost all features of the company's flagship full frame DSLR A900, but at a more affordable price. It is built around the same 24.6MP CMOS sensor and incorporates A900's 3.0 inch 921k LCD, sensor-shift imagestabilization and Dual Bionz processors. To complement the A850, Sony has also announced a midpriced 28-75mm constant F2.8 SAM lens to fit with the A850's affordable full-frame ethos.

In common with all other DSLR cameras from Sony, the A850 features SteadyShot. This in-body optical stabilisation system delivers up to 4 steps of anti-shake correction with all compatible lenses. Serious enthusiasts will also prize the camera's fast, high-accuracy autofocus system that provides excellent framing freedom while making it easier to achieve optimum focus with moving subjects. For greater creative control, an Intelligent Preview function indicates the effects of exposure, white balance, and D-Range Optimiser adjustments prior to shooting. The A850 is available from September 2009 priced at US$ 2,000 for body only and with the 28-75mm lens will be available from November 2009 for US$ 2,800.

Sony has also added the A500 and A550 to its consumer-level DSLR range. The DSLR-A550 and DSLR-A500 digital SLRs are based around new CMOS sensors and add a manual focus confirmation live view mode using the main imaging sensor, in addition to Sony's secondary-sensor Quick AF live view system. Both cameras feature Sony's better noise reduction, include an Auto HDR mode and offer sensitivity of up to ISO 12800. The 14.2 MP A550 features a high resolution 921k dot 3" tilt-angle LCD, while the 12.3 MP A500 comes with a 230k dot resolution 3"tilt-angle LCD. At the heart of both cameras is a new Exmor CMOS sensor that ensures crisp low-noise images, packed with fine detail and vibrant colours. The DSLR-A550 and DSLR-A500 digital SLR cameras are available from the end of October 2009 with 18-55mm lens and will be sold for US$ 1,050 and US$ 850, respectively. Casio Introduced EX-450 & EX-Z90 with Intelligent AF Function


Casio has announced a pair of Exilim Zoom series digital compacts.
