Special Guests in Canon-FN Gathering

Canon & Fotografer.net Gathering Series was held again on October 9. The event took place at Galeri Café, Taman Ismail Marzuki (TIM), Jakarta, and was attended by FNers (Fotografer. net members) from various regions such as Palembang, Sidoarjo, Balikpapan, and Manado. Senior and junior members, all gathered in this event. Crossing Bridges (CB) 6 participants who survived from earthquake in West Sumatra attended the event as well. It was also attended by a well-known photographer, Jerry Aurum.

The event started with dinner, followed by short greeting from Fotografer.net's founder, Kristupa Saragih. The following session was a testimonial from Tatang, one of the CB's participants. He shared his experience while in Padang after the earthquake happened. Afterward, Jerry Aurum presented his second book "In My Room" which will be released soon. He shared his story on the process, concept and execution of the book making.

One of Fotografer.net's members, Palty Osfred Silalahi, who celebrated his birthday performed a song in the end of the show. A happy birthday song performed that night ended the event. Wiwin Yulius

 

Canon & Nikon for West Sumatera

In a different press release, Canon and Nikon expressed their empathy to Indonesia and their deepest condolences to the victim of 7.6SR earthquake attacking West Sumatera in September 30, 2009. Canon Group made real of its concern by donating 11 millions yen, or more or less US$ 123,000. Ten millions yen was donated through Japan Platform and the Japanese Red Cross Society, while another million through the Singapore Red Cross Society. At the same time, Nikon Corporation donated 3 millions yen through the Japanese Red Cross, and Nikon Singapore Pte Ltd gave out S$15,000 through the Singapore Red Cross. Denpasar's Epson Stylus Office T1100 Launching

Epson Stylus Office T1100 was launched in Denpasar, Bali, on October 6. What is so special with this printer? "Historical Legacy" Photo Contest

As an effort in encouraging history comprehension of young generation, The Tourism Office of East Java Province is holding a photo contest themed on historical legacy. The photo contest is packed with tour and photo exhibition.

The objects are historical heritage in East Java include temple, statue, monument, cemeteries, buildings and else. Participants are allowed to take picture during the tour on October 12 to 14.

Participants are allowed to submit five photos with different objects before October 23. The grand prize is a cash of Rp 3.000.000. Photos submitted will be on show at Tunjungan Plaza II Surabaya on October 28 until November 1. The photo contest is open for public. Slamet. R

FNer's Photos on Show at Japan Sakura Matsuri 2009

Photos by Nyoman Bayu Yudianala, a member of Fotografer. net, were on show at Jakarta Sakura Matsuri 2009 and 4th Indonesia-Japan Culture & Business Partnership Celebration. Jakarta Sakura Matsuri lasted for 9 days from October 3 to 11 at hotel Nikko, Jakarta. Photos exhibited were displaying cherry blossoms in Japan. The event itself aimed to introduce Japanese culture through art performances and food. Nyoman also presented photography workshop on October 7 to 8 and photo clinic on October 5 to 8. Sony Develops Single Lens 3D Camera


Sony Corporation today announced the development of a single lens 3D camera technology capable of recording natural and smooth 3D images of even fast-moving subject matter such as sports, at 240fps (frames per second). This technology combines a newly developed optical system for single lens 3D camera which captures the left and right images simultaneously, together with existing high frame rate (HFR) recording technology to realize 240fps 3D filming. Sony will demonstrate a prototype model incorporating this technology at "CEATEC JAPAN 2009", to be held at Makuhari Messe Convention Center in Chiba City, Japan, from October 6.

Nikon's Sponsorship for 100 Young Photojournalists

Nikon was sponsoring 100 of young photojournalists in Eddie Adams' Workshop held in New York from October 9 to 12, 2009. In this workshop, namely Barnstorm XXII, Nikon gave them the opportunity to use many of its high-quality cameras, like D300s with the capability of recording a HD video, D3, D3X and D700, and some lenses. Canon-FN Hunting Series in Vietnam

Sapa is a small village located on a high land on Hoang Lien Son's mountain range. It is at the borderland of China and Vietnam. The village, namely "the Tonkinese Alps," is one of UNESCO's World Heritage Sites. Modernization has not yet visited some of the mountain tribes, such as Taphin and Laochai. Meanwhile, Hanoi, as the capital city and the second biggest city, has approximately 6.2 million inhabitants (according to 2008 database). The city architectures are mostly influenced by French, who colonized Vietnam during the mid of 19th century.

The exploration of those attractive spots in Vietnam is now establishing, and attended by the participants of Canon & Fotografer. net Hunting Series #4, began on October 13. This hunting is the last one held in 2009. These participants will be exploring Ha Long Bay, Titop Beach, Tuan Chau Island, Hong Gai city, Bat Trang ceramic city, Hochiminh Mausoleum, House on Stills, One Pillar Pagoda, Temple of Literature, Duong Lam village and many more. Free Three-day Workshop by Olympus

Olympus Customer Care Indonesia (OCCI) will conduct a free three-day photography workshop in Surabaya. Digital Photography Workshop will be held on October 16 to 18 during the Surabaya Computer Expo. The event will take place at Gramedia Expo, Surabaya.

FNers Explored Baduy

Fotografer.net's members (FNers) from Jakarta, Sidoarjo, and Lampung made a trip to Baduy Luar and Baduy Dalam villages on October 10 to 11. This wasn't an ordinary photo hunting as it was an effort to study the simple life of Baduy community. The route was Nangerang - Cibeo - Ciboleger. On their way to the villages, participants had to forbear themselves in photographing some objects because some objects are not allowed to be captured.

Besides enjoying the nature of Baduy villages, the participants were also attracted to their daily activity. The team spent their night at Baduy Dalam village in Cibeo. The next morning, they walked around the village and observing the villagers morning activity. They also experienced the villagers' life such as bathing in the river. Setyo B.


Nobel Prize for Inventors of the CCD Image Sensor


Two physicists who co-invented the CCD image sensor have been rewarded with a share of this year's Nobel Prize for Physics. Willard S. Boyle and George E. Smith developed the charge-coupled device in 1969 while working at Bell Laboratories, producing the world's first solid-state video camera just a year later. Besides both of them, The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences has also decided to award the Nobel Prize in Physics for 2009 to Charles K. Kao for his groundbreaking achievements concerning the transmission of light in fibers for optical communication. It means both Willard S. Boyle and George E.
